HYGIENE

Because judoka work in such close contact with each other, personal hygiene and specific personal habits are important, not only for health reasons but also for the purposes of safety.

  • Long hair should always be tied back neatly (No metal in hair band).
  • Jewellery should not be worn at all, as it could hurt either you or your partner/opponent. For example, earrings could be accidentally pulled out.
  • Feet and hands should be clean and nails should be kept short.
  • Ensure that wounds are well covered.
  • Sandals should be worn to and from the judo mat to keep your feet and the mat as clean as possible.
  • Do not eat for half an hour prior to training.
  • Do not train if you are ill. This is not only dangerous for you, but you risk spreading the illness among your fellow students.

If you are taking medication, consult your doctor prior to any form of training or competition, as it could be dangerous to exercise while on certain types of medication. In addition, certain substances in medication are prohibited under International Judo Federation competition rules.
