Two young competitors from Penrith PCYC have taken away medals at the recent Australian National Judo Championships.

12-year-old Hamish Moulder received a silver medal, while 9-year-old Jorge Hormovas took away bronze.

Competing in the under 13 years, Hamish took away his silver medal in the under 46kg division, which overshadowed his seventh place victory from last year.

“He won every fight except his final match, however it was very close and he fought extremely well,” Western Warriors Head Coach, Rodney Moulder said.

Meanwhile, Jorge competed up an age group in his first ever National Judo Championships, taking home the bronze in the 30kg division for under 13 years.

Fellow Western Warriors, 12-year-old Peta Coffa and 14-year-old Zachary Moulder also represented NSW at the National Championships and both took out fifth place in their divisions.

“Peta fought bravely and hard to attain fifth spot and did her club and the NSW team very proud,” Mr Moulder said.

“This was Peta’s very first time ever at Nationals and she achieved a very high level and learned a lot, which will help her in the future.”

No stranger to competition, Zachary has previously competed at the National Judo Championships twice before.
“Zachary competed in the under 16 years 46kg division where the competition is fast and fierce and was a credit to himself and the team,” Mr Moulder said.

Only 27 referees were chosen to referee the National Judo Championships this year and Western Warriors Head Coach, Rodney Moulder, was privileged to be among the few chosen.

“This was my third consecutive Judo Nationals as a referee,” Mr Moulder said.

With their success at a National level, the Penrith PCYC Western Warriors are currently preparing for the PCYC Championships at Blacktown next weekend.

“Looking at previous results, the Penrith PCYC Western Warriors should do extremely well,"
Mr Moulder said.
